NBC Blurb
Newlywed Matt (Comedian Elon Gold, The Dana Carvey Show), with the support of his wife Alex (Bonnie Somerville, Friends), has quit his job to go to culinary school. But in order to make ends meet in the meantime, they've grudgingly moved in with Alex's parents, Victor (Dennis Farina, Snatch) and Marlene (Jean Smart, Frasier). Since Marlene is caught up in her real estate job and Alex is busy working double shifts, Victor and Matt have plenty of "alone" time. Unfortunately, Matt is terrified of Victor and Victor isn't thrilled to have an "outsider" on his turf. Luckily, Matt and Victor have one thing in common that just might make this awkward situation work: their love for Alex.

Season One

  1. Pilot (OAD 09/24/02)
This cross-generational, domestic comedy from the producers of NBC's "Frasier" features newlyweds Matt (Elon Gold, "Clerks") and Alex (Bonnie Somerville, NBC's "Friends"), who move in with her parents (Dennis Farina, "Get Shorty," and Emmy Award winner Jean Smart, "Designing Women") to save money so Matt can attend cooking school. As soon as he crosses the threshold, Matt clashes with Victor Pellet (Farina), his overprotective, gruff father-in-law who owns a private security firm and routinely takes offense at every turn -- often insisting on much "private convo time." Meanwhile, Marlene (Smart), Matt's sleek mother-in-law, trades in her designer apron for a real-estate license while his new wife Alex works as a nurse. The misunderstandings and hair-trigger relationships make a rocky start for the exasperated Matt and Alex, whose every move is seemingly checkmated - especially when they loudly break Alex's hand-crafted childhood bed on their first night under the Pellet's roof.

  2. Fleetwood Matt (OAD 09/24/02)
A trip to the eye doctor turns disastrous for nervous son-in-law Matt (Elon Gold), who crashes VictorÓs (Dennis Farina) beloved Fleetwood and struggles between the guilt of the accident and the sheer terror of telling his father-in-law.

  3. The Mattress Kings (OAD 10/01/02)
After their squeaky mattress puts their sex-life on display, Matt (Elon Gold) and Alex (Bonnie Somerville) want a new bed and are talked into going to the "Mattress King" (guest star Reginald Veljohnson, "Family Matters") by Victor (Dennis Farina) -- which leads to a male struggle for dominance as both of the men in AlexÓ life try to prove their superiority through a mattress purchase. Meanwhile, Marlene (Jean Smart) befriends a co-worker (guest star Dorie Barton) -- a condescending former classmate of AlexÓ, who ridiculed her throughout school.

  4. Love Is the Key (OAD 10/01/02)
Matt (Elon Gold) is looking forward to a private, romantic repeat of their wedding dinner, but Alex (Bonnie Somerville) has forgotten to tell her parents they will need the house to themselves. She promises to fix the situation, but discovers that Victor (Dennis Farina) has ordered an important pay-per-view fight for that night -- and winds up invited to join him. Matt succeeds only in complicating matters, and to his dismay the evening for two turns into dinner for four, complete with the band that played at their wedding. Jean Smart also stars.

  5. Monopoly Report (OAD 10/08/02)
Matt (Elon Gold) is blamed by Victor (Dennis Farina) for jinxing the longtime Pellet family tradition of apple-picking when sudden rainfall ruins the day. Alex (Bonnie Somerville) tries to save the outing and her husband's face by suggesting a friendly game of monopoly. Family in-jokes and rule bending ensues and Matt realizes just how out of the family loop he really is. Jean Smart also stars.

  6. Crown Vic (OAD 10/15/02)
Victor (Dennis Farina) anxiously awaits the announcement of his rise to the title "King of Kings" of the local men's club when the present incumbent, his friend Charles (Alan Rachins), contemplates retirement. But when Matt (Elon Gold) talks Charles' son Chip (Justin Doran) out of taking over his father's business, Charles reneges on his retirement plans and Victor's long time dream is shattered. Jean Smart and Bonnie Somerville also star.

  7. Love Thy Neighbor (OAD 10/22/02)
When the Pellets' next-door neighbor suddenly kicks the bucket, Marlene (Jean Smart) is given her first house to sell as a real estate agent. When none of the buyers seem interested in this unique home, Marlene begins to lose faith in herself. Finally, a seemingly perfect match for the house enters but is rudely chased away by Victor's (Dennis Farina) pretentious attitude and Matt (Elon Gold) makes it his personal mission to get Victor out of the doghouse. Bonnie Somerville also stars.

  8. Halloween: Resurrection (OAD 10/29/02)
Enticed by a clever laughing witch decoration, Matt (Elon Gold) attempts to put the Pellet house in the Halloween spirit, unwittingly breaking a neighborhood "fright night" truce and forcing Victor (Dennis Farina) to call a meeting of the heads of the five families in the hopes of stopping an all-out decoration war. However, when the meeting goes poorly, the families of Elm Grove Court plunge into a full scale, no-holds-barred battle over the most festive Halloween decorations. Paul Vogt ("The Rerun Show") guest stars along with twin brother Peter Vogt. Bonnie Somerville and Jean Smart also star.

  9. Games People Play (OAD 11/12/02)
Victor (Dennis Farina) and Alex (Bonnie Somerville) prepare for a day of father-daughter racquetball -- but when Alex is called in to work and Matt (Elon Gold) volunteers to play in her stead, he unexpectedly emerges the winner. Victor cries foul and demands a rematch, and Alex is once again caught in the middle of their rivalry. Jean Smart also stars.

  10. Lucky Charms (OAD 11/19/02)
Victor (Dennis Farina) is hoping to enjoy a family day at the horse races sans Matt (Elon Gold), but when Matt unexpectedly returns home early from school and joins them, he ends up stealing Victor's racetrack mojo. Also, Marlene (Jean Smart), while playing hooky from work, spots her boss and her co-worker, Stacy (Dorie Barton) canoodling a little too close. Bonnie Somerville also stars

  11. If You Can't Stand the Heat (OAD 12/03/02)
When Matt (Elon Gold) teams up with a talented cooking partner, Danny (guest star Roselyn Sanchez "Rush Hour 2"), Alex (Bonnie Somerville) has little reason to be concerned, until she meets the culinary beauty "Danielle" - a.k.a. partner Danny. Sally Kellerman ("M*A*S*H") also guest stars. Dennis Farina and Jean Smart also star.

  12. Married Christmas (OAD 12/03/02)
When Marlene's (Jean Smart) father, Howard (guest star Michael Constantine), pays a visit to the Pellet household for some Christmas cheer, the heartwarming holiday turns into a battle of the father-in-laws. Matt (Elon Gold) realizes that Howard abused Victor (Dennis Farina) and that's the reason he's so tough on him! In an effort to break the cycle, Matt suggests Victor to tell Howard how he feels, but the two come to heads and it takes Matt to bring them back together again. Bonnie Somerville also stars.

  13. Matt Goes Into Labor (OAD
